Art

The Art Program will prepare students for a lifelong vocation or avocation in a variety of visual arts media.

Opportunities available with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (BFA) and Associate in Art (AA)

The Art Department prepares graduates in a variety of careers as professional artists. These include 2d and 3d Studio Arts (ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and painting), Graphic Design, and Pre-Art Therapy. Careers include professional artists, designers, private studio teachers, museum gallery, and curatorial positions, graduate school, and other areas which require a broad spectrum of art related skills.

Program Overview

PROGRAM OUTCOMES--The following outcomes have been adopted for the degree program for which this course is required:

  • Student is able to plan and install a professional exhibition of his or her work.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in their area of study.
  • Student is able to document their work and experiences professionally, and engage in professional practice. 
  • Explain the historical, cultural and conceptual aspects of their work.

Art Students in NY
A group of Rio Students explore New York City on the annual Art Department trip. Here we sit in front of St. John the Divine’s Cathedral. One of the largest cathedrals in the world.
Art Soup Bowl
Rio Grande ceramic students recently enjoyed a bowl of homemade soup in class. Students and faculty brought in all the ingredients as well as biscuits and desserts. The only rule was you had to have made the bowl you were eating from. A good time was had by all.
