Accessibility

Rio is committed to providing a welcoming and safe environment to all our students. The Office of Accessibility works to ensure all members of the campus community and regional centers have access to our physical and online environments, coursework and instruction, and programs.

Rio's Office of Accessibility assists students with qualifying disabilities to obtain reasonable accommodations for classroom use and campus life in accordance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504. The Office of Accessibility also advocates for the student and ensures that student accommodations are met. Students interested in receiving reasonable accommodations for classroom and/or residence life should contact the Office of Accessibility to learn more about how to register for services.

How to Register for Services

Interested in registering for accessibility services due to a qualifying disability? Here’s how:

  • Contact the Office of Accessibility for intake paperwork.
  • Submit your intake paperwork and schedule your intake appointment.
  • Meet with the Director of Academic Support & Student Accessibility to discuss your specific needs and determine reasonable accommodations.

As part of the intake paperwork, you will need to provide documentation of a qualifying disability. This may be provided by your medical or mental health care provider, or by providing an academic record that notes your disability, such as an IEP or 504Plan from K-12.

To receive reasonable accommodations, you will need to meet the established definitions and criteria for having a disability under the American Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and/or Fair Housing Act.
