Community Joins Rio for a Night of Celebration and Giving, Raising Over $35,000 for Students

4/22/25

On April 10, community members came together with University of Rio Grande students, faculty, staff, and alumni to raise over $35,000 for the Rio Fund. These funds support essential student financial aid, cutting-edge technology, campus enhancements, and transformative educational opportunities.

The event took place at the Holzer Leadership & Innovation Center and featured live and silent auctions, made possible by contributions of local businesses and individuals. Guests enjoyed dinner courtesy of Hallmark Dining Services and a lively social hour sponsored by Mid-American Cleaning Contractors.

A highlight of the evening was a student panel, where attendees heard directly from Rio students, Kaylee Jones (Piketon), Unique Overly (Chillicothe), Azyiah Williams (Ripley), Josh Napier (Alexandria, Kentucky), and Christian Cachilli (Italy). Each student shared their personal Rio story, and the role scholarships and donor support have played in their educational journey.

Unique Overly, a student at Rio’s McArthur Center recently accepted into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program, credited scholarships for making her continued education possible. “Scholarships are the reason I am able to continue my education and create a better life for me and my family,” she shared with the audience.

President Ryan Smith also provided an update on recent institutional developments, including the opening of Trinity Hall, the construction of the new McArthur Center, and the launch of the Pike Center earlier this year. He expressed confidence that Rio is on track to reach a record-high enrollment this fall.
