How would you like to head into the summer with some money in your pocket? We've got an opportunity for students to do just that by competing for cash prizes in the Storm Tank Student Business Pitch Competition!

Event FAQs:

Who can participate? Only current Rio students are eligible to participate. You can compete as an individual or a team of up to four people. All majors are welcome to participate.

How can I participate? Students should send their a 1-minute video or a 1-page overview of what they plan to pitch to Cole Massie (cmassie@rio.edu) by Friday, March 21. From there, participants will be selected to participate in the live event on Monday, March 31.

Do I have to have a business running to participate? You can, but it’s not required. We will accept both operating businesses and promising business ideas.

Can I participate by myself? Yes! Students can participate in teams of up to 4, or as individuals.

What’s the prize pool? We are planning for a $3,500 prize pool, with $2,000 going to 1st place, $1,000 going to 2nd place, and $500 going to 3rd place.

What does a winning pitch look like? A winning pitch should have a clearly identified problem and a business solution to that problem. If a participant’s business is already operating, showing success and future plans would be great. If it’s an idea right now, showing how the business will operate, who it’s key customers will be, and how it will be profitable.
