Get Certified as a Sports Official at Rio's McArthur Center
Attention sports enthusiasts! Starting this February, athletic officiating classes will be offered at Rio’s McArthur Center, providing an opportunity to become an OHSAA certified official.
“The courses are perfect for anyone looking to earn money officiating games, sharpen leadership and decision-making skills, and gain hands-on experience to jumpstart their officiating career,” said Misty Napier, Director of Rio’s McArthur Center. “And thanks to the Mitchell Family Scholarship, those interested in taking the classes may be able to do so for free.”
The first round of courses, which start on Saturday, February 1, will focus on certification for baseball and softball. Football courses are scheduled to begin in March. Certification courses for other sports will be announced as they become available.
“Becoming a licensed official opens the door to immediate work opportunities,” said Napier. “Additional benefits include, staying active, remaining involved in the sports you love, and joining a supportive community of fellow officials.”
The McArthur Center offers various degree and certification programs in general studies, healthcare, social work, and more. For more information about the courses and Mitchell Family Scholarship, or to register, please visit rio.edu/mcarthur.
