Regional Science Day

The Ohio Academy of Science Regional Science Day at Rio Grande serves Adams, Gallia, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, and Scioto Counties.

Science Day and the preparation for it is a unique and fulfilling experience for students. Through their projects, students have the opportunity to explore fields of science and to learn and practice critical thinking, inquiry, technological design, and investigative skills. Students will learn research methods, including how to obtain data, keep a research log or notebook, graph data, and develop conclusions. Science fair projects foster imagination and elevate creative thought. Students will develop and enhance organizational and communication skills, and they will learn to work independently as well as in a group. They will meet other students interested in science, and students can earn recognition for academic excellence.

Important information for State Science Day qualifiers

State Science Day project submission must be completed no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

State Science Day submission requirements (instruction sheet):

Materials already submitted for Regional Science Day (abstract, written report, and forms)
- You are encouraged to update materials based on judges' comments from Regional Science Day.
Quad chart (editable PowerPoint template)
- Pictures of your trifold will not be accepted.
15-minute maximum video presentation (video guide)
Selection of awards to be considered for
$60 registration fee (payment information)
- This fee is not covered by the OU Voinovich School.

The $30 per student registration fee is being waived this year thanks to the generosity of the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service at Ohio University.

Students must be part of a teacher's classroom in ProjectBoard; therefore, both student and teacher will need to have accounts in ProjectBoard.

Student Schedule

7:30 am – 8:45 am Registration/setup

9:00 am – 11:30 am Judging of projects (a list of things to do for parents and families will be provided the day of the event)

11:30 am – 1:00 pm Lunch

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm Awards ceremony and meeting with SSD qualifiers

Judges

The 2025 Ohio Academy of Science Regional Science Day at Rio Grande will be in person on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The competition is open to students in grades 5-12 whose schools are in Adams, Gallia, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, and Scioto counties. We are inviting you to join us in judging this event.

Orientation will be provided for all judges. Breakfast and parking will be provided on the day of the event. Judges should plan for a half-day commitment. When you report to the Lyne Center, please watch for the signs that point you to check-in and orientation. Lunch will be on your own afterward.

OAS Regional Science Day at Rio Grande 2025 Judges’ Schedule
7:30 am – 8:15 am Check-in
8:15 am – 8:45 am Judges’ orientation
9:00 am – 11:30 am Judging of projects
11:30 am – 1:00 pm Lunch (on your own)
1:00 pm – 1:30 pm Awards ceremony

Judging will be conducted in two one-and-one-quarter-hour sessions. Judges will be needed for the full two and a half hours of judging.
