Multicultural Relations Collaboration
This Fall 2025, Professors Lilia Moyer and Sangeeta Gulati worked on the collaboration between the ESL Program led by Professor Moyer and the EDU 30303 Multicultural Relations course for the 4th year in a row.
Students interacted in small groups and informally talked about their cultures. Gatherings like this strengthen multicultural connections and offer opportunities for international students to use their language skills in an authentic setting. This makes their experience much more realistic and meaningful. American students also profit from these meetings. They can experience face-to-face multicultural interactions with their international peers without leaving their classroom. University of Rio Grande is lucky to have such a multicultural community present on campus.
A group of nine ESL students led by Program Director, Lilia Moyer, visited the EDU 30303 Multicultural Relations course taught by Professor Sangeeta Gulati. During a one-hour small group gathering, American and international students exchanged cultural traditions regarding food, holidays, family relationships, and attractions in their native countries. This event allowed international students to step into the role of experts in their cultures and gain confidence in their ability to communicate in English. American students, on the other hand, learned about different cultures from experts during informal interactions. The University of Rio Grande has many international students who are proud of their cultures but are also eager to learn about American culture. This is the second year that Professors Moyer and Gulati have collaborated to help these two communities interact and promote a more unified environment on campus.
